Local Copycats

There’s a reason I don’t watch a lot of local tv, and that’s because most shows are either lacking in originality or possibly also because most of our airtime is hogged by commercials or teleshopping segments.

I am sick of all the cheap imitation. I mean, if you’re going to imitate a programme at least make it better…right? WRONG! Well, not in Malta anyway.

The latest copycat show I’ve come across is called Style Watch presented by Peter Carbonaro and Carina Camilleri.

The name is pretty self-explanatory, really. These two presenters, along with two other guests, basically just view pictures of people and criticise them on what they’re wearing. Sound familiar? Maybe if you’ve ever watched Fashion Police it does…Anyway, I think it extremely funny how people sitting around in their perfectly sponsored clothing get to judge people, who they don’t even know, on what they are wearing. I doubt most Maltese people can afford Prada or D&G…most can’t afford the luxury of buying branded clothes…others don’t have the time to shop around…some might not have the figure for it…some others might also have some kind of physical condition that might require them to wear certain things, say a particular style of shoes, shirts, whatever.

Ultimately, I think, if you don’t know the person, or what that person is going through, don’t judge the person. Never ever judge a person.

In the end this is just my opinion, but I think such programmes are petty. Seriously, there’s a difference between judging Maltese locals in their everyday wear and Hollywood celebrities on some kind of catwalk or red carpet. The latter can afford to buy fabulous stuff…they attend red carpet events to be seen and make it on best-dressed lists…Malta’s not Hollywood…local ‘celebrities’ are not the same as those in Hollywood…I seriously doubt they can afford the same stuff. Get your facts straight before you comment!
